Page for Searle Parkway

This web page is dedicated to the men and women who worked at 4901 Searle Parkway in Skokie, Illinois. The Searle Parkway facility was originally owned by the Searle family, and was the worldwide research and development headquarters for G. D. Searle & Co Pharmaceuticals. It is home to such innovations as Dramamine, Enovid, NutraSweet, and Celebrex. Searle was purchased by Monsanto in 1985, and at that time the Parkway site became Monsanto's world headquarters for pharma R&D. Monsanto merged with Pharmacia & Upjohn in 2000, forming Pharmacia Corporation. In 2003, Pharmacia was purchased by Pfizer. On April 29, 2003 Pfizer made the announcement that all research and development activities in the Chicagoland area would cease, and the Parkway facility would be closed forever. Over one thousand people learned that they would be losing their jobs that day. The mission of this website is to help the Parkway colleagues keep in touch as we set out in search of whatever comes next. We may not know what the future will bring, but with what we have learned during our time at the Parkway, we can be certain that everyone will succeed. |
